Getting aggregate onto a military installation is not a standard delivery.

No pulling up to the gate and figuring it out. Restricted sites have vehicle inspection requirements, es**rt protocols, pre-clearance procedures, and delivery windows that don't move. Show up without the right documentation and the truck turns around - materials don't arrive, the project stops, and now you have a problem with the contracting officer.

Our process: coordinate with base logistics or civil engineering before the first truck is ever scheduled. Confirm driver clearance requirements, inspection procedures, and acceptable delivery windows. Build the schedule around those constraints. Brief the carriers well in advance - not the day before.

It's more work on the front end. It's the only way to do it right.

One of the biggest mistakes buyers make when sourcing aggregate materials is focusing only on material price instead of delivered cost per usable ton.

A cheaper quarry can actually cost more if trucks are sitting in long load lines, haul routes are inefficient, or material consistency slows production onsite.

Experienced buyers pay attention to:
• Quarry load times
• Haul cycle efficiency
• Material consistency
• Loader productivity
• Scalability under pressure

The best operations are not always buying the cheapest stone - they’re buying the most efficient operation.

A lot of project delays have nothing to do with the actual work being done.

It’s usually stuff like:

Trucks showing up all at once instead of staggered
Material getting ordered too late
Nobody realizing a site can’t handle the volume coming in
Crews waiting around because one piece of the chain fell apart

People outside the industry think hauling is just “pick it up and deliver it,” but there’s a lot that has to line up for things to run smoothly.

The jobs that stay on schedule are usually the ones where somebody planned ahead for the problems before they happened.

Backup suppliers.
Extra trucks available.
Drivers who know the area.
Dispatch actually communicating with the field.
Realistic timelines instead of fantasy schedules.

Sounds basic, but it’s usually the basics that save a job.

Most of the time, if logistics are being talked about on a project, it means something already went wrong.

Getting sand and gravel where it needs to be sounds simple until it’s not. Delays, bad routing, wrong quantities, trucks sitting idle. It adds up fast.

Good project management is what keeps jobs moving. Tight scheduling, solid vendors, clear communication, and knowing where your trucks are at all times.

That’s how you stay on schedule and protect your margins.
