Today is

Data privacy day was created to bring awareness to the importance of data privacy and how everyone can protect themselves online. Your data is YOUR business and you can take actions to protect it. Personally identifiable data such as your name, SSN, email, address, cell phone numbers, and full birth date requires protection.

Here are some key ways that I protect my privacy online:
🚨Read privacy policies for websites I visit and apps I download. Don’t just blindly use a website that collects your data without knowing how that data is used and shared.
🚨Browse the internet securely with HTTPS. Any website that you’re browsing should use the HTTPS protocol and you will know because there will be a lock icon in the search engine and “https:” before the website address. HTTPS encrypts the data that is sent over the internet which means no one watching your movements can see what data you’re sending.
🚨Limit the amount of personal information I share on social media. Sharing your life is fun with friends and people you trust. Sharing your life with strangers, not so much. Be aware of what information can be collected by watching your social media profiles.
🚨Limit location tracking on my smartphone. Have you noticed that almost every app asks you to enable location tracking? You have a choice to either share your location or not. I do not give all apps access to my location. There are plenty of apps that don’t require my location to function but will still ask for it.

How are you protecting yourself?
