Today is
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Data privacy day was created to bring awareness to the importance of data privacy and how everyone can protect themselves online. Your data is YOUR business and you can take actions to protect it. Personally identifiable data such as your name, SSN, email, address, cell phone numbers, and full birth date requires protection.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are some key ways that I protect my privacy online:
🚨Read privacy policies for websites I visit and apps I download. Don’t just blindly use a website that collects your data without knowing how that data is used and shared.
🚨Browse the internet securely with HTTPS. Any website that you’re browsing should use the HTTPS protocol and you will know because there will be a lock icon in the search engine and “https:” before the website address. HTTPS encrypts the data that is sent over the internet which means no one watching your movements can see what data you’re sending.
🚨Limit the amount of personal information I share on social media. Sharing your life is fun with friends and people you trust. Sharing your life with strangers, not so much. Be aware of what information can be collected by watching your social media profiles.
🚨Limit location tracking on my smartphone. Have you noticed that almost every app asks you to enable location tracking? You have a choice to either share your location or not. I do not give all apps access to my location. There are plenty of apps that don’t require my location to function but will still ask for it.

Your personal accounts can only be confidential if you can keep them secure. In this cyber age having security is everything.

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is a way of using multiple steps to prove your identity online. Adding MFA to your day to day habits online will keep you and your data safe from outsiders and intrusion. MFA can be added to your social media accounts as well.

If you password is hacked, MFA will protect you. This post is all about Multi-factor Authentication or MFA.

Authentication is the tech way of saying “proving who you are.” One way to improve the security of your accounts is to enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA).

A few reasons why Iove my career in tech:
⚡️Evolving Trends - As technology changes and evolves so does the way it has to be protected.

⚡️ Continuing Education - As a result of the evolving trends, IT professionals have to continue their education and training. Whether it’s obtaining more certifications or reading security journals my training didn’t end with my degrees. I actually enjoy learning and studying and I want to learn as much as I can.

⚡️ Challenging Environment - No day is the same as another. Just when you think you have seen it all, something new comes your way. Working in tech is a challenge but you grow because of it. A lot of what I have learned came through the experiences I had.

A few reasons why I Iove my career in tech: work to do in this area but I can say I have seen diversity in working with people who have different educational, technical, and experiential backgrounds. This creates a collaborative environment with free-flowing ideas and open-ended discussions. I’m very excited to see more women and people of color in tech and I know it’s coming.
