Caught Vinod Khosla at AI 2026 (Eragon x Corgi) last night.

He opened with this: “Most experts are experts in a previous version of the world. Not the one you’re trying to build.”

Then told a story from 1996. Every telecom carrier, even Cisco, was certain ATM would be the internet protocol. Khosla bet on TCP/IP instead. 2,500x return on $3M.

A few other things he said that I keep thinking about:
- The plan doesn’t matter much. The team is the company. Plans change easily. Teams don’t.
- At zero revenue, a $100M company and a $1B company look the same. The difference is in how the founders think about what they’re building.
- Don’t ask what you’ll do in 2026. Ask what the company looks like in 2030.

And his prediction: by 2035, almost nobody will need a job. People will work on what they want, not what pays the mortgage.

Not sure I fully agree with that last one. But he’s earned the right to make big calls.
