Outdated permitting rules are holding back America’s energy future.

Voters recognize that infrastructure is no longer keeping pace with rising demand, and two-thirds support permitting reform to speed up new energy infrastructure, including natural gas pipelines.

Modernizing the permitting process is key to building the infrastructure necessary to meet demand and deliver the affordable, reliable energy Americans deserve.

We recently hosted a Homeowner Utility Conversation at Bethany Baptist Church in Brooklyn, located in Congressman Hakeem Jeffries' district, where homeowners, seniors, and working families shared how rising utility costs are affecting their households.

Participants welcomed the recent reforms to New York's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), expressing appreciation for Governor Kathy Hochul and the Legislature’s efforts to address affordability concerns while keeping the state on a path toward a cleaner energy future. The conversation reinforced the importance of balancing ambitious climate goals with the real-world needs of everyday New Yorkers.

Did you know? Households that use natural gas save more than $1,100 per year on energy costs. Yet nearly one in four Americans still struggles to pay their energy bills.

So why are costs rising?

Policies that block critical natural gas pipelines and energy infrastructure are limiting access to affordable, reliable energy. As demand grows, states with these restrictions are increasingly forced to rely on more expensive and higher-emitting alternatives, including fuel oil, coal, and imported LNG.

At a time when affordability is top of mind for working families, we need commonsense energy policies that support a balanced, all-of-the-above approach—one that keeps energy reliable, affordable, and available for the people and businesses that depend on it every day.
