🌞 How to Calculate Your Home's Electricity Needs and Determine the Number of Solar Panels Required 🏠💡

Ever wondered how many solar panels you'd need to power your home? It's easier than you think! Here's a quick guide:

Calculate Your Daily Power Usage: Check your electricity bill to find your monthly usage in kilowatt-hours (kWh), then divide by 30 to get your daily average.

Estimate Solar Panel Output: Solar panels are rated by the amount of electricity they generate in ideal conditions. This is measured in watts. A standard panel might produce around 250 to 300 watts.

Consider Sunlight Hours: Your geographic location affects how many hours of sunlight your panels will receive. On average, most areas in the U.S. receive about 4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day.

Do the Math:

Divide your daily kWh usage by the average sunlight hours to get the kW you need per hour.
Divide this number by the wattage of a solar panel to get the total number of panels you need.
Example: If you use 30 kWh per day, and your area gets 5 hours of sunlight:

30 kWh / 5 hours = 6 kW needed per hour.
If one panel produces 300 watts (0.3 kW), you'd need about 20 panels (6 kW / 0.3 kW).
Remember, this is a simplified guide. Other factors like panel efficiency, roof space, and weather patterns also play a role. For a precise calculation, it's best to consult with a solar energy expert!

The panels, which can either be polycrystalline or monocrystalline.

The two main types of solar panel technology in use for residential homes – there’s also a third type, cast mono, that’s a hybrid of the two.

It doesn’t matter if you get a mono or a poly panel. What is important is you buy a good brand that will last 25+ years installed on your roof.

What Does a Solar Inverter Do?
A solar inverter takes the DC electricity from the solar array and uses that to create AC electricity. Inverters are like the brains of the system. Along with inverting DC to AC power, they also provide ground fault protection and system stats, including voltage and current on AC and DC circuits, energy production and maximum power point tracking.

Most solar modules are currently produced from crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells made of multicrystalline and monocrystalline silicon. In 2013, crystalline silicon accounted for more than 90 percent of worldwide PV production, while the rest of the overall market is made up of thin-film technologies using cadmium telluride, CIGS and amorphous silicon.

Emerging, third generation solar technologies use advanced thin-film cells. They produce a relatively high-efficiency conversion for the low cost compared to other solar technologies.

Photovoltaic modules use light energy (photons) from the Sun to generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect. Most modules use wafer-based crystalline silicon cells or thin-film cells. The structural (load carrying) member of a module can be either the top layer or the back layer.
