Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to! Currently, students at SAR Academy in Riverdale, NY are finishing up our STEAM Innovators Program with a Design Challenge.

Students create a nonverbal communication device and use it to transmit secret messages using a code they create. This one’s for all you gadget-y wearable tech-y sneak-y tinkerers!

Our team had a great time at last week! Our favorite part was seeing the lights light up in the eyes of so many science teachers making their own DIY LED Gauntlet at our table! Or experiencing our DIY K**b Dimmer from our kit amongst others. It was so meaningful to get out there and share what we’ve been working so hard on and the was infectious!

A photometer is a tool that measures the strength of light. It converts light into electricity using a photoresistor.

Once we make our own DIY photometer using our Light Sensitivity Kit...well then the options are endless what we can do with it! One way, pictured here, is to measure how much light our plants are receiving to make sure they’re staying healthy.

Spotlight on: Breadboard Basics!

A breadboard allows the mind to harness the desire to explore, test, and prototype without the burden of soldering. Students can test out different circuit paths without having to make permanent wire-splices, which makes it that much easier to have fun with problem-solving and building!
