πŸ”΅ Detail of the lunar ground, in a record taken during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. For Apollo astronauts and their equipment, the fine, grainy dust on the Moon's surface was definitely an issue. In December 1972, Apollo 17 astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan needed to repair one of the fenders of their rover (Lunar Jeep) in an effort to keep the dust plumes away from them and their equipment. Do you know how they improvised a bumper? With sheets of maps and ribbons.

πŸ”΅ New study identifies five double-sun planets that can harbor life.

Astronomers used data from the Kepler Telescope and pointed out that the celestial bodies are in habitable zones, with conditions to retain water.
Using analytic equations and pre-computed atmospheric models, the researchers estimated how the planets' atmospheres interact with light coming from those stars.

😍 A beautiful lunar eclipse recorded on May 26 near Sydney, Australia. That night, the Moon transited the shadow the Earth casts. Sunlight, when transposing the atmosphere, dyes the lunar surface red, in a spectacular and mesmerizing effect of refraction. The 6-exposure image also shows the wide range of brightness variations within the Earth's umbral shadow, against a faint background of stars.

πŸ”΅ Whatever hit Mimas almost destroyed her. What remains is one of the Solar System's largest impact craters, on one of Saturn's smallest moons. An analysis indicates that a slightly larger impact would have completely destroyed Mimas. A huge crater, named Herschel, named after the discoverer of Mimas, William Herschel, in 1789, extends for about 130 miles and was recorded in this image by the Cassini spacecraft. Mimas is mostly made of water ice, with a handful of rock and dust, so it's needed like a big dirty snowball.
