A New Era for Sidewalk Sheds in New York City

On Friday, June 12th, 2026, Core Scaffold Systems and ARUP unveiled two next-generation sidewalk shed concepts, The Flex Shed and The Rigid Shed, as part of New York City’s initiative to transform the pedestrian experience while maintaining the highest standards of public safety.

Selected through NYC’s Sidewalk Shed Design Competition, these systems challenge decades of conventional design and demonstrate how temporary protective structures can be safer, brighter, more efficient, and more visually appealing.

We were proud to stand alongside the New York City Department of Buildings, Commissioner Ahmed Tigani , industry leaders, architects, engineers, and members of the media as these concepts were introduced to the public.

For decades, sidewalk sheds have been viewed as a necessary part of New York City’s built environment. Today, we are helping shape what they become tomorrow.

Thank you to ARUP, NYC DOB, and all stakeholders who helped bring this vision to life.

We’re excited to continue advancing innovation in construction, public safety, and urban infrastructure.
