Helping energy companies protect birds in the environment is one of the key ways Accipiter Radar has been Targeting a Safer World for over 15 years. That's why this August was so rewarding for our team at Accipiter Radar, who worked tirelessly to deliver our state-of-the-art, radar-activated deterrent systems (RADS) to the Alberta Oil Sands as part of a new smart surveillance network (SSN) being rolled out to protect the environment (you can learn more about our SSNs here https://lnkd.in/giCYTGQi).

We are grateful for the trust and investment placed in us by our customers, and the collaboration of our business partners who work closely with us to help our customers meet the requirements of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Our 3D avian radars detect and track incoming birds approaching tailings ponds and automatically trigger subsets of solar-powered, radar-activated deterrents on their flight path to persuade the birds to alter course away from potential danger. This radar-activated approach helps to avoid habituation. Land-based deterrents provide a first line of protection using high-powered acoustic devices with predator calls along with radar-activated cannons, and floating deterrents provide a second line of protection using a combination of lights, sounds, and oversized, electro-mechanical falcons.

The environmental protection investment made by Alberta energy companies in Accipiter Radar has enabled us to continuously develop and improve our SSN platform technology which is now starting to pay dividends in other industries including border security and the safe integration of drones into our national airspace, both which require a similar type of wide-area persistent surveillance and situational awareness over a large regional area.
