We’d like to invite all current and incoming SUMA and GSAPP students to join Build it Green this Fall! Build It Green is Columbia’s student organization for students passionate about sustainability in the built environment. We connect students with industry leaders through site visits, networking, technical discussions, and social events exploring sustainable design, construction, real estate, and climate solutions.

Last year, we toured projects including Sendero Verde and 270 Park Avenue, visited Dattner Architects, hosted industry panels, and built community through events like board game night at Hex & Co.

Coming Fall 2026:

Recently, Build it Green had the opportunity to host a thoughtful conversation on the future of urban agriculture in NYC with Agritecture . Moderated by Henry Gordon-Smith , with insights from Yolanda Gonzalez, Ben Flanner , Derek Pitts , and Meghan Groome. The panel dug into what’s actually changed in urban ag, where the field has fallen short, and what it really takes to scale sustainable, financially viable operations. From policy and financing barriers to the roles of technology, private sector innovation, and workforce development, the discussion challenged assumptions and highlighted where real progress is still needed.
