LERA is super excited to announce the BARDAVID and the David Rubenstein Forum at the University of Chicago have been named finalists in AIA Chicago’s Design Excellence Awards!! Join us at DESIGNIGHT on September 12, at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, where we will receive either an Honor Award or Citation of Merit. Congratulation to full team! LERA led the structural design of this new 97,000-sf (9,000-sm) center for intellectual exchange, scholarly collaboration and special events.

LERA was the structural engineer for numerous renovation projects at the existing 1.4 million-sf Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. A major portion of the renovation was the addition of a new 6.75-acre green roof with new high-performance rooftop units on the existing roof, which had been leaking since it was built. The new green roof retains 72% of rainfall and improves thermal performance and durability, a leading factor in the project’s pursuit of LEED Silver certification.

The 9-story, 222,000-sf NYC Public Health Lab has officially broken ground in Harlem! This new, state-of-the-art facility for New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will strengthen the city’s abilities to protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers. LERA is the structural engineer.

Construction in full swing for the senior housing building at Sumner Houses in Brooklyn! LERA is the structural engineer for the 10-story, 138,418-sf (12,860-sm) senior housing building, coupled with a 7,500-sf (700-sm) community facility, creating 190 affordable housing units in total. The community spaces include classrooms, conference rooms, and a large multipurpose room. Residents are afforded exclusive access to additional spaces, including meeting rooms, an exercise room, a winter garden, and a social services suite.
