I am devastated to just learn of my dear friends and clients- Lis Rubert and Dale Pon were tragically lost to COVID -19 in April 2020. We had briefly fallen out touch during the pandemic as I was living abroad. Recently a friend /colleague informed me that our previously unpublished apartment project was listed (and sold). I thought it odd and bit worrying, as they loved their 5th Ave pad so much that they would never move from it. As Yoshiko and I were busy with other work at the time, I recall Lis and Dale graciously "waitlisted "themselves for nearly 3 years until we were available to design their home. During nearly 2 years of complicated construction and the tragedy of Yoshiko’s death during it , their patience with me was remarkable. Afterwards we spent several more years slowly furnishing their apartment and them paying me with countless lunches / dinners where we developed our lasting friendship. As I reflect back, they were doing this simply to “keep an eye on me” during my most difficult period with such kindness and care .
I am so blessed to have known them both.

So wonderful to see the Yoshiko pop up on the screen when doing an unrelated search on Kenneth Frampton. Here is Yoshiko in a Michael Blackwood film working for Tod Williams and Billie Tsien in the early 1990’s.
