DB Co-op

DB Co-op We are a cooperative design build incubator that prototypes vehicles, devices and concepts that foster the growth of more livable urban ecologies.

Our vision is to use a rigorous research and design process to develop a human-electric tricycle with a versatile framework that is multi-functional and solves current and future mobility issues. We will use this vehicle to create sustainable modes of community, agriculture, business, manufacturing, and distribution. This is achieved through the reconsideration of existing modes of production and

consumption. Additionally, our facility acts as a community and cultural hub for the exchange of ideas. We host lectures, workshops, media and art events, experimental labs, educational courses, and youth empowerment programs. Our purpose is to invigorate our environment while affecting positive change

General information

Currently we are in the process of designing and prototyping a human / electric powered vehicle that will act as the foundation for a variety of projects. Simultaneously we are developing a family of static / dynamic devices for the NYC urban-agricultural community. Our team is made up of a rotating cast of people; including designers, engineers, metalworkers, architects, mechanics, makers, writers, artists, and the like.

Products

We are working on a few projects right now.

The first set is a family of agricultural machines. These machines are the dry Shredder, compost Sifter, and wet Shredder. Each one is human-powered and meets a need felt by urban farmers, gardeners, and food-based businesses in our city and also beyond. The trio of dry Shredder + wet Shredder + Sifter perform distinct functions in the process of turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. By making abundant food and yard waste easier to process we will contribute to NYC's necessary refertilization, a measure of growing potential which figures quite literally in the realities of food security and public health.

Our other main project, the TruXycle, is also being prototyped as we type! It is a heavy-duty cargo tricycle that combines human and electric power. Farms, restaurants, street vendors and other food businesses will use this crossover vehicle to transport heavy loads on city streets and in bike lanes. A foot-generated electrical power source supports the extra weight while maintaining low relative cost and the benefits associated with fuel-free delivery. As conceived, the TruXcycle helps us close the nutrient loop in the city's food ecosystem by expediting the movement of food and waste at various phases in the cycle.

We are hard a work on these machines and vehicles in their various stages of production but are always looking for more help / people to pitch ideas and make them happen. If you would live to get involved, we are searching for engineers, designers, the tech-savvy, organizers, grant writers, gardeners and volunteers to join our team.
