Happy Farmer’s Market Week!
We’re thrilled to share our weekly CSA bag from ! Every week, we’re amazed by the freshest, most delicious pesticide-free produce our local farmers provide. 🍅🥕🌽

But this week, we’re taking it one step further. Inspired by the 2017-2018 culinary series SCRAPS: Parts Uneaten, we decided to embark on our own food waste adventure! Follow the series as national Sur La Table Chef travels across the U.S., creating incredible feasts in unexpected places, using the most out-of-the-box ingredients – food waste and scraps. 🌎✨

Last week, we found a beautiful head of cauliflower in our CSA bag. Instead of tossing the leaves, we got creative and turned them into a crunchy, delicious ingredient for our vegetable pasta. 🍝🥦 Voila! Our first attempt at upcycling scraps was a success!
Join us in celebrating Farmer’s Market Week by getting creative with your produce. Let’s reduce food waste and make every bite count!

Monday is compost drop-off day in the East Village. We are thankful to have provide free food scrap drop off locations for New Yorkers throughout the city. Until Manhattan gets our brown bins for residential pick-up in 2025, we depend on this location for our organic recycling needs 🙏.

Calling all 🌳 lovers! A new exhibit at Brooklyn Botanic Garden showcases the “Power of Trees”. Trees tend to exist in the background of our lives, not paid much attention to until we need some shade or a place to hide from the rain. But trees sustain life, from absorbing pollution to providing oxygen to creating a home for birds. This new exhibition combining art and science will feature six site-specific sculptures by local artists, it opens on Saturday, June 17 and runs through October 22.

A sneak peek of the featured exhibits includes a Climate Action Sticker Wall in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, showcasing climate commitments as stickers that can help foster civic engagement within the community. Another exhibit called “Branching Out: Trees as Community Hosts” features six tree sculptures created by local BIPOC artists.

Explore the many benefits trees provide for our ecosystem and community. “Power of Trees” offers a socially inclusive feast for the senses, the mind, and the spirit.

Celebrating International Compost Awareness Week. The chosen theme was a collaborative and international effort. International Compost Awareness Week - ICAW USA teamed up with (ICA) to select a topic based on a serious world-wide issue that every nation, unfortunately, experiences: hunger. One of the initiatives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), is Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

How does compost help? By recycling organics into compost and using it on our farmlands, we create healthy soils that produce healthier food and higher yields. It also reduces the need for fertilizer and pesticides, improves water quality and conserves water, as well as stores carbon in soil - helping to reduce climate change. Compost not only helps the environment but also helps to decrease food shortages experienced around the world. For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food…Compost!

Also, congratulations to this year’s winner of the ICAW 2023 Poster Contest, Jun Qi Tan...👏👏👏
