The interior of Zeitz MOCAA redefines the former Grain Silo Complex with a sculptural approach that preserves its industrial essence. A dramatic central atrium, carved from the building’s dense concrete tubes, mimics the cellular structure of a grain kernel, creating a cathedral-like space flooded with natural light. The transformation retains the original cylindrical storage silos, now repurposed into 80 galleries spread across nine floors. Circular cutouts and glass inserts allow visitors to experience the building’s historic fabric while offering new spatial perspectives. The meticulous design blends heritage with functionality, providing spaces for art conservation, education, and performance within Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
