Burkina Faso is one of Africa’s top gold producers. But for years, much of its gold wealth has been extracted by foreign companies, exported in raw form, and sold on international markets with limited benefit to the local population.

Ibrahim Traoré- the military leader of Burkina Faso, challenges this model. His government is pushing for greater national control over gold resources by revisiting mining agreements, reducing foreign dominance, and prioritizing local ownership.

The goal is not just ownership, but influence over how gold is produced, priced, and distributed.

One of the most critical components of this strategy is local processing. Rather than exporting raw gold, Burkina Faso aims to refine and process it locally. In simple terms, it moves Burkina Faso up the value chain; from exporter to processor.

At its core, this is not just about gold.

It is about value.
It is about control.
It is about who benefits.

And more importantly, it raises a question that extends far beyond Burkina Faso:

Can Africa move from supplying resources to shaping the systems that define their value?

The global economy is entering a structural transition. Energy transition, infrastructure modernization, and technological acceleration are reshaping capital flows.
At the center of this shift is rising demand for critical and strategic minerals such as; lithium, cobalt, copper, manganese, graphite and a broader range of transition-enabling resources. As clean technologies scale, global demand for these inputs is projected to increase significantly over the coming decade.

Africa holds a defining position in this landscape. According to recent data from UNCTAD and the African Development Bank, the continent accounts for a substantial share of global reserves, approximately 55% of cobalt deposits and nearly half of global manganese resources, alongside considerable endowments of copper, lithium, rare earth elements, and other strategic minerals. Several African nations already play a central role in global supply chains. What is changing is the framing. The conversation is no longer limited to extraction. It is about structured investment, value-chain participation, and long-term capital alignment.
At ARHS, we provide disciplined access to verified mineral investment opportunities across Africa, connecting global capital to credible, strategically positioned projects across the continent.
