Imagine your life without dental care: constant physical pain for untreated conditions, social stigma because of tooth decay, and the risk of serious overall health conditions. For children and adults around the world––from rural U.S. counties to West Africa––steep barriers to dental care are a painful reality. Through A-dec’s Impact Initiative, we’re helping to remove those barriers through our partnerships with life-changing charitable organizations. As early as 1966, two years after A-dec was founded, company co-founder Ken Austin created a dental cart specifically for public health and missionary dentistry. Six decades later, Concern for People remains a pillar of the A-dec Way, including our work with Mercy Ships in the following way:
In the African country of Guinea, A‑dec provided dental equipment to train a new generation of dentists.
That equipment helped Mercy Ships train over 1,000 dental students from 18 nations––creating a legion of new dental providers who will improve lives throughout Africa.
An additional donation of dental handpieces was made to help ensure the dental school has years’ worth of supplies to aid in teaching new students. This donation also will provide each graduating student with a brand new handpiece as they enter their career in dentistry.
