BISON Safety Winners – April
At CUDD, maintaining a safe work environment depends on employees who stay alert, communicate hazards, and take action before incidents occur. This month’s Safety Winners demonstrated strong situational awareness and a commitment to protecting both their crews and the operation by addressing unsafe conditions immediately and reinforcing proper procedures in the field.
Let’s recognize the individuals who made safety a priority this month:
📌 Justin Rojas – Odessa
While drilling out a well for a customer, a production worker requested to use the aerial lift to fit production pipe together. After safely entering the lift away from any pressurized lines or suspended loads, it was noticed the worker was not wearing a safety harness. Work was immediately stopped, the hazards of improper PPE were discussed, and a harness was provided so the task could be completed safely.
📌 Aaron Wettlaufer – Muncy
While backing up a unit, Aaron noticed his spotter walked behind the truck and out of sight. He immediately stopped operations and waited until the spotter returned to a visible position before continuing. After parking, he addressed the importance of proper spotting procedures and maintaining visual contact at all times.
📌 Chad Rowell – Elk City Snubbing
While waiting for elevators to come down, Chad noticed an employee standing in the line of fire. He stopped the individual and explained the importance of remaining off to the side while elevators are moving to avoid potential struck-by hazards.
📌 Reynaldo Rios – Muncy
During line testing before injection, Reynaldo identified a leak on the customer’s test manifold valve. He immediately informed the Company Man of the hazard, isolated the nitrogen line, bled down the pressure, repaired the leak, and safely continued the storage well test.
📌 Brett Fox – Mount Pleasant
While preparing to pick up coil tools, Brett noticed a lifting strap was torn. Operations were stopped immediately, the damaged strap was removed from service and discarded, and a new strap was put into use before work resumed.
Safety is built through everyday decisions and accountability in the field.
Whether stopping an unsafe act, identifying faulty equipment, or correcting procedures in real time, these employees demonstrated the proactive mindset that helps keep everyone safe and operations running successfully.
