The Open-S standard expands with OS40!
Open S alliance has officially announced the expansion of the standard with the OS40 size; the standard now covers excavators from 2 to 75 tons.
This was announced at a press event hosted in the Steelwrist stand during CSPI-EXPO on June 17.
Steelwrist first presented SQ40, the solution that now becomes the OS40 standard, at Bauma in Munich in 2025 and has since actively introduced the solution to the market.
OS40 brings Open-S into the compact excavator segment between 2 and 7 tonnes, a highly important size class in Japan and many other markets.
With OS40 becoming part of the Open-S standard, the benefits of fully automatic work tool changes and open compatibility become available in one of the most important compact excavator segments.

Open-S is the open industry standard for automatic couplers for excavators, owned and managed by the independent Open-S Alliance.
Steelwrist is a founding member of the alliance and has been a driving force behind the development of the standard.
