Out of respect for a competitor who died last month, I have purposely not said anything or posted anything as I decided to wait and see what happens. Even with this post, I will not be mentioning names of the individual or his business - again - out of respect for him. Turns out, letters have recently been sent out and we started receiving calls into our office so I guess now, discussion is fair game.
The letters were alerting this company's clients that due to the tragic and untimely death of the owner, the business is being closed. Even I was hopeful the business and his legacy could live on. I use the term "competitor", yet there has always been enough business for all of us. Naturally, this has sent their customer base scrambling as Spring is upon us and everyone wants to get their irrigation systems turned on and checked out. His death, while truly a sad event, now puts us in a unique position because having owned my company for 29 years, that makes me the longest running irrigation contractor on the peninsula and provides us additional opportunity to grow our client base even more, not to mention, there's now one less of us to share the overall demand and workload. This is something we will approach with great care, humility and professionalism. Therefore, we will gladly discuss taking on those clients left feeling uncertain about things and will welcome them into our family with open arms. If you happen to hear or see posts on Facebook or other social media platforms from anyone looking for a new irrigation company, I would appreciate your recommendation. While we are not their (now) former contractor, we will do our best to take care of them as if we were.
We are also hiring and looking for sharp, motivated individuals because like every other service-based business, we need the help.

29 Years!
Today marks my 29th anniversary of ownership of Precipitation Unlimited and my involvement in the jet-set world of irrigation. I can't begin to explain how lucky I have been all these years and I owe a deep debt of gratitude to my incredibly talented office staff and great co-workers (past and present - and they know who they are) who have gone on this journey with me. I heard a quote just recently that states "Do what you're best at and you'll at least be happy... regardless of how well you do it." I have been quite "happy" (and blessed) for these past 29 years and am driven to keep going. Success -is- addictive. We -are- the best... and our team does these thing called irrigation, drainage and landscape lighting contracting very very well. More importantly though, we do customer service and relationship building better than anybody else and while my responsibilities have shifted slightly in the past couple of years, I have no intentions for it to stop anytime soon.
THANK YOU to our customer base who believes in me, supports us and trusts the two companies to help them. I am humbled by it all.
Here's to 29 years at being the best. Cheers!
Wow, one more year and I'm eligible for a gold watch. 🤣

Some days are more adventurous than others.
Rolled up on scene late this afternoon and found a little storm damage from yesterday's monsoon event.
This may be the largest root ball I've seen yet.
Funny thing is, this tree was maybe as tall as this root ball is when I installed the system 27 years ago. Luckily, it fell the right way and didn't hit the house. But boy did it do a number on the neighbor's fence!

Located the main and wire and exposed the electric service to the grinder pump.

Once tree is removed and stump ground, we will return to re-construct.

Today we have to say goodbye to one of our team members on what is his last day with us.
Gary Myers is off to pursue other adventures in life as he starts on a new career path.
He is #1 on my list as “most improved” employee ever... from what he knew when he started just at a year ago to what his requisite knowledge level is now.
His rapport with customers, his professionalism and his attention to detail is truly remarkable. Whatever we threw at him, he quietly handled with ever-increasing skill and confidence (and the frequent cynical comments and comebacks that would leave us all cracking up)

Today’s fun project:
Installed a new drainage system for a client in Williamsburg whose landscaping was drowning.
We’ve had so much rain lately, it was a muddy mess.
Our ace team of rock stars did a beautiful job putting it all back and making it look like nothing was done. The photos don’t lie.
Outstanding job gentlemen!!
Can’t wait for it to rain again now.

So today's adventures took me to an irrigation system I've never seen before. Homeowner seemed somewhat skeptical as if he expected me to cut and run. He initially called for an estimate but he was really begging for help. Seems he's had his problem for two years and told me he'd had several contractors out to try and resolve his issues but none of them would follow through. Said he was told last week to try giving me a call. That just seemed like good challenge to me.

When it was all said and done about two hours later, I found the needle in the haystack - a broken wire that he hit two years ago with a stake when installing steel edging around his A/C unit. He couldn't believe it when I showed him. A quick wiring repair and bingo!!!!!
That was one happy guy when I left.
