From Nobel Prize-winning advances in microscopy to today's integrated imaging platforms, innovation in optical science continues to reveal biology in unprecedented detail.

Thorlabs is proud to support the technologies behind groundbreaking instruments like MOSAIC, recently featured in Nature Methods. Researchers introduced MOSAIC (Multimodal Optical Scope with Adaptive Imaging Correction), a reconfigurable platform that combines light-sheet, super-resolution, label-free, and multiphoton imaging with adaptive optics in a single microscope.

By integrating multiple imaging modalities into one system, MOSAIC enables researchers to study biological processes across scales, from molecules to whole organisms.

Advancing quantum education requires hands-on learning, the right tools, and collaboration. Our recent 3-day ALPhA Advanced Laboratory Physics Association Immersion training on the Thorlabs Quantum EDU Optics Kit brought professors from different universities together to share ideas, experiments, and best practices. 🚀

Lead mentor Brandon Mitchell from West Chester University of PA has used the Thorlabs Quantum EDU Optics Kit for the past three years with both his students and in outreach programs throughout the Philadelphia area. Thanks to Eric Kurywczak of Thorlabs, for providing support and serving as teaching assistant. Our professor participants are now bringing practical insights back to their labs and classrooms. 🔬

Throwback to the time we used a Lab Snacks box to view the eclipse! On August 12, parts of Europe will get to experience another solar eclipse. If you don’t have access to a pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses, a rudimentary pinhole eclipse viewer can be made using common household materials:
- A cardboard box
- A white piece of paper
- A pair of scissors
- Tape
- A piece of foil
- A nail

The hole in the foil serves as a pinhole camera, but will be viewed on a “screen” rather than recorded onto film. The white piece of paper serves for improved contrast when viewing in the box.

While a nail was used for this video, any small, sharp, and pointed object like a sharpened pencil or threading needle would work. A smaller pinhole makes for a less bright, but sharper image. If you think the hole you made is too big, the foil is easily interchangeable to try it again!
