🌿More acres don’t always require more people. Sometimes they require a different operating model.

This was one of the most important conversations around agricultural technology at Penn State Ag Progress Days 2026.

👨‍🌾For U.S. farms, growth means more acres to cover, more field operations, tighter application windows, and greater dependence on available operators. When labor availability becomes a limiting factor, adding more equipment or people is not always enough.

Agricultural automation offers another way to increase operational capacity.

Agricultural drones can move selected applications from the ground into the air, reducing field traffic and adding capacity during critical application windows. Autonomous ground robotics can take on repetitive operations without requiring constant operator involvement. Intelligent irrigation systems can automate resource management and improve control over water use.

The important shift is not the adoption of one particular technology. It is the ability to combine different systems into a distributed automation model that supports the farm as a whole.

This was particularly visible at this year’s Ag Progress Days, which introduced the FIRA Robotics Village East Coast and placed agricultural robotics more directly into the conversation around labor shortages, productivity, and farm scalability.

Through Agrifuture USA, Futurology’s agricultural division, we are working with the U.S. agricultural market to explore where these technologies can create practical value — from reducing repetitive workload and operational losses to increasing the capacity of farms to grow.

The future of agricultural automation is not about replacing the farmer.

It is about giving the farmer more capacity, more precision, and more control over the operation.

How far can humanoid robotics go?

A new humanoid platform has already surpassed reported human records for running speed and standing vertical jump.

◾️12.66 m/s top speed.
◾️2 meters standing vertical jump.

And the most striking part? The machine has been in development for just over three months.

These results demonstrate how advances in actuation, motion control, balance, and AI are pushing robotic systems beyond the physical limits of human performance.
