I’ve had tinnitus for almost 20 years. Sometimes it’s really loud, like a chainsaw running in my head, and other times it’s dull and more annoying than anything else. My normal hearing is still pretty good, I think, but low voices or sounds get muffled in the hum in my head, and I find myself saying with some frequency, “What’d you say?” or “Can you repeat that?” Of course, some of it might be that I’m just getting older, and the sins of my youth on the range are catching up to me...

Here at Beckenhauer Construction we celebrate victories big AND small.

Today the crew at Codington County Jail & Law Enforcement Center celebrated the installation of the adjustable step system. This system allows crews to move equipment between levels more easily, improving both safety and overall job site efficiency.

The Beckenhauer Construction crew commemorated this new addition with an impromptu “Ribbon Cutting”!

Summer heat can turn serious fast. National Sun Responsibility Day is a good reminder to stay alert!

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are real risks, especially when temperatures climb into the 90s and beyond. Signs like dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, cramps, weakness, or confusion shouldn’t be ignored.

If someone starts showing symptoms: get them to a cool place, start rehydrating, and monitor them closely. If symptoms worsen or don’t improve, seek medical attention immediately.

• Stay hydrated.
• Take breaks.
• Limit direct sun exposure when possible.
• And most importantly, look out for each other.

No job is worth risking your health.

Supporting programs that connect students with real-world experience is one way Beckenhauer Construction helps strengthen our communities and Nebraska’s workforce.

The Cooperative Education/Career Scholars Program at Wayne State College gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining hands-on experience in their field, helping make a four-year degree more affordable while building a strong foundation for their future careers. Participating students receive a generous scholarship package for completing designated degree programs, preparing them to fill high-skilled workforce needs in underserved communities. During their senior year at WSC, students will live in those communities while completing immersive, work-based learning experiences with local employers.

The programs goals:
• Retain young talent in Nebraska through high-skilled, high-wage careers
• Increase the number of four-year graduates working in high-demand Nebraska industries
• Equip students with career-ready skills and connect them to in-state employment opportunities

We’ve been glad to be part of that foundation a few WSC students, who we have worked alongside our team through the program. Watching students grow through opportunities like this while supporting program and community goals has been especially rewarding.

Last week, during National Correctional Officers Week, we had the opportunity to recognize the dedicated staff at Adams County Corrections by sending pizza as a small thank you for all they do.
Much of their work happens behind the scenes and often goes unseen by the public, but their impact on the community is felt every day. We appreciate their commitment, professionalism, and service to keeping the community safe.
