Auxiliary Systems, Inc.

Auxiliary Systems, Inc. Auxiliary Systems, Inc. is a small business in Norfolk, Virginia. Our business is in marine repair, industrial repair, manufacturing and alternative energy.

is a Small Business formed to meet and service the total marine auxiliary plant equipment needs for the Port of Hampton Roads, and to serve the industrial manufacturing markets in Hampton Roads, the state of Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. ASI has recently diversified its business outlook and capabilities. Our primary markets are marine repair, manufacturing and alternative energy. For i

ndustrial market customers, we are a “one-stop-shop” to handle all needs from service and repair to replacing worn out plant equipment and/or manufacturing new equipment in our own shops. This can include the installation of the equipment and providing ongoing service, with service contracts. We are quite proud to say that we are not aware of any other manufacturers, servicers or distributors for the marine and industrial markets that utilize our type of business model in the United States at this time. We are currently capable of outfitting personal and commercial vehicles into bifuel or dedicated compressed natural gas vehicles. We believe that this is the fuel of the future for the United States and our ticket to increased independence from foreign oil.

Auxiliary Systems has recently enhanced its Motor Shop capabilities with the installation of a new WM4500 Coil Winder, designed to optimize the production of both AC and DC motor coils. This advanced equipment significantly improves our coil fabrication process by increasing efficiency through faster setup times, delivering greater precision and consistency, and reducing material waste—particularly copper wire.

The system also enables us to input and store data for commonly rewound motors, streamlining repeat work and ensuring accuracy across projects. For DC coils, the need for time-intensive manual processes—such as cutting and machining —has been eliminated. With interchangeable adapters that can be swapped out in minutes without complex tooling, the WM4500 allows for a more flexible and responsive workflow.

In addition to the coil winder, ASI has installed a new C & C Overhead Crane, further strengthening our operational capabilities. This asset has significantly improved material handling efficiency and safety within our Rewind Shop by reducing reliance on forklifts, freeing up valuable floor space, and enhancing maneuverability in tight areas. It also enables precise loading and unloading of equipment, allowing trucks to be serviced directly from the bay and minimizing the risk of damage to both equipment and vehicles.

Together, these investments reinforce Auxiliary Systems’ commitment to efficiency, safety, and delivering high-quality service to our customers.

Then & Now Career Spotlight: Jeff Lupo

Jeff joined Auxiliary Systems in January 2019 as a helper, bringing with him a strong foundation of leadership from his service as an Army veteran, including two tours in Iraq. Although new to the marine industry, Jeff quickly distinguished himself through his work ethic, adaptability, and commitment to learning.

Within just two months, Jeff advanced to a Team Lead role for our Newport News crew. Over the next three years, he demonstrated consistent leadership and operational excellence, earning a promotion to Superintendent. In this role, Jeff continued to showcase his drive and dedication, making a lasting impact on both his team and our company.

Today, just five years after joining ASI, Jeff serves as one of our Program Managers for CMAV contracts—a testament to his resilience, ambition, and continued professional growth.

Jeff’s journey reflects the kind of talent and determination that define our organization. ASI is stronger because of people like Jeff.

On March 24, 2026, ASI was awarded an emergent two-week availability for the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), commencing the same day at Naval Station Norfolk. Our team mobilized immediately, initiating critical setup and accomplishing repairs to the ship’s side-port doors, boiler systems, ammunition trolley, UNREP fueling rig, and replacing three VSD cabinets.

Working closely with our subcontractor, United Mechanical Flushing Services, we successfully completed the flushing of the port and starboard side-port doors, LCAC plenum doors, side-port door cranes, and associated hydraulic systems in approximately nine days, significantly ahead of the typical one-month timeline. The boiler lagging repairs were finalized in just three days, alongside the completion of UNREP fueling rig modifications.

ASI’s rigging department executed the removal and replacement of three VSD cabinets in only two days. This complex task required removing the cabinets from the Forward Main space and rigging them to the hangar bay, followed by the rigging and installation of the new units into the Forward Main space.

Despite the short timeframe, all of the work was completed two days ahead of schedule. This achievement reflects the exceptional dedication, expertise, and teamwork demonstrated by ASI personnel, the MARMC maintenance team, and ship’s force, all working together as one team.

Last Friday, we received a call from a DDG experiencing a CASREP due to a failed titanium line on their RO plant. ASI met the ship at NOB on Monday, quickly retrieved the damaged component, and got to work.

Within just 24 hours, our team completed the repair and returned the titanium line—helping the ship get back underway with minimal delay.

Outstanding work by Team ASI.
