Busy summer for Caddell & Company, we were excited to bring the architects' visions to life in multiple renovation and flooring projects at OU campus. Our team did an amazing job...over 18,000 square feet of carpet alone was laid in 2 weeks at Bizzell Memorial Library!

For those of you that are geeks, buffs, or lovers, we've been doing some research of the Jim Thorpe Building, one of current jobs, and uncovered some interesting background...

The architect was John Duncan Forsyth who was born in Scotland in 1887. He received training at Edinburgh's Royal Academy of Arts and at the École de Beaux-Arts in Paris.

After building office branches in Shanghai, he moved to Tulsa and become prominent there, building many architecturally significant buildings in Tulsa and Ponca City, most notably the E. W. Marland Mansion (a 43,561 sf Italian Renaissance palazzo. Maryland was once one of the most powerful men in the world, and a true rags-to-riches-to rags again story).

The Jim Thorpe Building was completed in 1938, using Art Deco style, and was funded by the Public Works Administration, under the New Deal of 1933.

We are currently updating the office for the Norman Fire Department. We redid the flooring in the whole space, added their countertops and cabinets to their break room, and reconfigured some of the individual office spaces.

Next step in the project will be updating their grounds and landscaping once Oklahoma weather is somewhat more cooperative ::wink::

One of our recent projects . . .

Students living on campus will now have the chance to cook for themselves in a community kitchen on the first floor of Walker Center.
