Our client wanted a four-season sunroom to replace an old screen porch. He also wanted a large garage for his recently restored classic car. We connected the two with an enclosed breezeway. The breezeway and sunroom open to a gracious terrace. Local regulations required handling the rain from the ne...

In the last eight months, events have proved the celebrated architect’s premise prescient. By focusing on cities, planners have missed propulsive changes in the hinterlands.

Some very interesting thoughts about housing.

A fundamental part of the American dream is to own a single-family home. But this aspiration and the lifestyle that comes with it has grown increasingly unaffordable, unhealthy, and ironically out of

Anne Griswold Tyng was a great architect and teacher, whom I was privileged to have as a friend and mentor for three decades. She never received the recognition that she deserved, because she was a woman in a man's field, at the time when she was most productive. Two weeks ago was the 100th anniversary of her birth.

She was known as Louis Kahn's muse but never really escaped his shadow. What Tyng's only surviving solo project says about her legacy.

Our client wanted to expand their business from a 750 square foot storefront to this 3,300 square foot grocery store with sit-down dining. Starting from an abandoned print shop, we built a full commercial kitchen, a clean, bright store, and new dining room. We provided full ADA-compliant accessible route and restroom in the existing building. . Excellent job on the build-out by LLM Fine Line Home Remodeling and Construction! https://www.houzz.com/pro/larry876/llm-fine-line-home-remodeling-const-mgmt-llc

The owners of an early 20th century single-family home in Conshohocken wanted a bigger, modern kitchen. We added a room on the back of the house and turned the former kitchen into a laundry, bathroom and coat closet. The new 320 square foot kitchen is spacious, with an island and 9-foot cathedral ceiling

Everything must change. But it isn't always for the better.

The grocery store's transformation is another indication that distribution centers are taking over prime retail locations.

Why are designers so keen to do cantilevers? Because they are so dramatic? Because they can? Because they are sooo expensive?

Cantilevers are not only aesthetically dramatic, but often used to offer visitors access to new spaces, and in the process, frame their experience of these spaces.

This is one of Saarinen's most evocative and playful works. I was there thirty years ago. So glad that it has been restored. Another great example of adaptive reuse.

Our architecture critic finds not quite enough polish at the new hotel in Eero Saarinen’s 1962 TWA Flight Center, despite glamour to spare.
