James Anthony Tropeano, Sr. “Jim”, age 94, of West Newbury, formerly of Wakefield and Andover, died early Thursday morning, July 19, 2018, in the serene surroundings of the High Pointe Hospice House, with loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann (Bella) Tropeano.

Born in Wakefield, on April 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Sambino and Louisa Maria (Evangelista) Tropeano. On March 12, 1943 at the age of 18, Jim entered the Military and proudly served in the United States Army. During his time in the service, Jim survived as a Prison of War in a German prison camp in Mulberg, Germany for 18 months and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Jim earned the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945 as a highly decorated WWII Veteran.

In 1971, after falling in love with the world of dirt and trucks, Jim founded J. Tropeano & Son’s. In 1983 the company was renamed J. Tropeano Inc. His experience in the roadway construction industry earned him the nickname “Pops”. Pops Tropeano worked endless hours to ensure the success of his construction company, working hand-in-hand with family and friends.

It was the love and support of his family that made him the proud man that he was. His family was his inspiration and he never missed a chance to let them know how much he loved each and every one of them. He was especially fond of his grandchildren who endearingly called him “Pa”.

His life’s legacy will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, Mary Ann of West Newbury, MA whom he was happily married to for 66 years; his eldest daughter Susan Coleman and husband Craig of Florida, his son James Anthony Tropeano Jr. of California, his son Mark Vincent Tropeano and wife Barbara of California, his daughter Louisa Maria Tanner and husband Jack Watkins of West Newbury, MA, his daughter Nancy Emberley and husband Bruce of Florida, and his daughter Mary Stabile and fiance Dale Rogers of Haverhill, MA. Pops will also be remembered and missed by his thirteen grandchildren, Angela, Chris, Marc, T.J., Dailyn, Bruce, Mary Ann, David, Elena, John, Samii, Rebecca, and Anika. Jim is also survived by his 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and several brothers and sisters he was predeceased by his grandson, Jimmie, III.

Please join us in a celebration of Jim’s life on Tuesday, July 31st at Sals Restaurant, 354 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, Ma from 4:00 to 7:00. Graveside services will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to Operation Troop Support, 16 Trinity Street, Danvers, Ma. 01923. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA.
