Before GPS, automation, and digital controls, there was skill, grit, and a whole lot of teamwork.

What began as McCarthy Improvement Company of Davenport, Iowa, became Geneva Construction in 1926, growing into a company that has spent 100 years helping build the streets, neighborhoods, and future of Aurora, Illinois. While the equipment has changed dramatically over the decades, the dedication to quality paving has remained the same.

How far back does your asphalt plant history go?

In 1956, Geneva Construction Company purchased seven acres along Indian Trail in Aurora and established the asphalt plant that would become a key hub for paving the roads serving the city’s residents and economy. In this photo, trucks line up to load mix from the company’s Barber-Greene BatchPac—a look at the plant operations and equipment behind the paving work that helped keep Aurora moving.

The company was an early adopter of Barber-Greene paving technology, using equipment that improved paving efficiency and consistency compared to earlier methods. Over the decades, Geneva Construction evolved from labor-intensive roadbuilding to today’s advanced asphalt production, testing, and paving operations, while maintaining a focus on quality materials, proper compaction, and durable roads.

• Experience scheduling and managing concrete crews
• Knowledge of concrete specs and placement practices
• Experience working with Ready-Mix plants
