8 out of 10 homes in Northern NY have HVAC deficiencies. We didn't read that somewhere — we see it every week.

We were called to assess a home recently. Nice house. Good family. They'd been fighting high heating bills and comfort issues for years — and had already replaced their system once.

Within 20 minutes we could see the problem. The system was never designed for that home. Wrong size, wrong configuration, no consideration of the building envelope. The previous installer just swapped equipment without addressing the real issue.

Unfortunately — this is not unusual around here.

For 50+ years, Northern NY has operated with almost zero enforcement around how heating and cooling systems are designed and installed. No Manual J load calculations required. No building envelope assessment. No accountability. Just equipment swapped in and out, and homeowners left wondering why nothing ever really works right.

What that actually costs you:
💸 20–40% higher energy bills than necessary
🥵🥶 A house that's never quite right — too hot, too cold, too humid
⚙️ Equipment that wears out faster than it should
⚠️ On fuel systems — carbon monoxide and combustion risks that go undetected

About 1 in 5 homes we assess has deficiencies serious enough that we have to have a real conversation before we can take the job on at all. We turn work down. We think that should tell you something about the companies that don't.

We're not saying this to sell you something today. We're saying it because we live here too, and people deserve to know.

The good news — most of this is fixable. And between NYSERDA incentives and flexible financing, the timing to address it has never been better.

Holmes Mechanical is the company in this region that does the engineering first — Manual J load calculations, building envelope assessment, proper system design — before we ever recommend or install equipment. It's why our installs carry 10–12 year service coverage. It's why we're Mitsubishi Diamond Contractors and NYSERDA CleanHeat certified.

If any of this sounds familiar, reach out. We do a preliminary photo screening before we visit — no obligation, no pressure. Just honest answers.

I'm pleased to share that we've recently finished installing a Mitsubishi heat pump system for one of our valued customers. This system includes a 3-zone and a 2-zone setup, featuring both wall and floor units.

Because the home is heated entirely with 100% efficient electricity, these new heat pumps will provide an efficiency range of 135% to over 400%! As a result, our customer will save substantially on electricity and enjoy air conditioning throughout the summer.

If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of heat pumps, and possibly installing them in your home, please feel free to reach out

Is a Manual J/C Heat-Cooling Load calculation necessary? YES!! Especially when planning for Heat Pumps. An oversized Heat Pump will use much more energy, leave you feeling uncomfortable and fail prematurely. So, we decided to invest in a software program that designs, in a 3-D model, your entire homes heating and cooling loads almost instantly using LIDAR technology. This software is ACCA accredited and takes minutes to use versus the old methods of measuring every room, window, door etc. etc. by hand which requires a lot of time, which ultimately adds costs for the homeowner.

Are you ready for a new heat pump or HVAC system? Contact us to setup an appointment to put our tech to work for you!
