Well, since BHJ is no longer in business, you have to get what you can, when you can!

We now have the capability to index lifter bores on the Buick V6 engines.

Align honed with studs, pump pad trued.
Decks equalized, indexed to 9.785”
Transmission dowels indexed, stepped pins
Cylinders bored .025”
Diamond/stone hybrid finish, with honing plates.

Cam tunnel alignment and size checked.
Lifter bores indexed, honed, for .875” lifters

Machining a Viper block for an oversize cam tunnel. These get bored for perfect alignment, and then finish honed .002” to size. I feel the finish hone profile retains oil and helps with load carrying capability and dry starts.

These blocks are pretty notorious for having cam tunnel issues, especially once you add spring pressure or boost. There’s no bearings on #2- #7, it’s cam on aluminum. This is a common, reliable production method, until added pressures come into play.
I also have a modification that utilizes a full round, replaceable cam bearing, for severe damage repair or extreme duty.

On a side note, the Thrive Shearglide 413 oil has been amazing in the line honing machine. It cuts clean and cool, and prevents stone loading. I’ve done iron and aluminum blocks now. It drains off the block cleaner too.

This is the same oil I’ve used in my CV-616 with stones and diamonds, with the best results I’ve had with any oil. It’s also in my WVN AN hone, two Sunnen rod machines and three valve grinders. It’s literally a “one fits all” product.

I’m a dealer for this oil, but I’ll say, because if the current war, the price has gone up a LOT.

The last shortblock finished. For a friend’s marina, inventory. 355” Vortec.

Funny thing, I’m pretty sure something like this would have been the first engine that left the shop back in 1990. These Chevy 350’s have been the backbone of the industry for 50+ years. That’s really something.

Well, time to get moved and work on some fun tech content. The 355” dyno mule is already getting some flogging.
