Some house noises sound a little more spooky in October. 👻

A bang in the wall after a faucet shuts off can be water hammer.

Popping from the vents when the heat starts is often the ductwork expanding as it warms up.

A rumbling tank water heater can mean sediment has built up inside.

None of those need an exorcist. Some do need a plumber or HVAC tech.

The first time the heat runs after summer, you may get a dusty burning smell that may freak you out a little.

Dust settles on heating components while they sit unused. The first run can burn that dust off, and the smell should fade fairly quickly.

Turn the system off and call if the smell is electrical, reminds you of melting plastic, comes with visible smoke or does not fade.

Cold, damp morning and steam is coming off your heat pump? That is usually the defrost cycle. 😅

Frost can build up on the outdoor coil in cool, humid weather. During defrost, the system melts it off quickly and the water can look like steam.

A short cloud of steam is normal. Call us if the unit stays iced over, never seems to recover or the house will not warm up.

R-410A systems can keep running, and they can still be serviced and repaired. Seeing R-410A on the outdoor-unit label does not mean you need a replacement. ❄️

EPA rules changed the new-equipment market and manufacturers have moved toward lower-GWP refrigerants. Under the current 2026 rule, some R-410A equipment made or imported before 2025 can still be installed while that inventory remains.

If you are curious what your system uses, check the label on the outdoor unit or ask us next time we are there.

These reviews made our day. ⭐

Dennis, Betty and James each took the time to leave us a Google review, and they called out Karl, Javi and Darren by name!!

Swipe through all three.

If we have worked on your home recently, we always appreciate hearing how it went.

That bonus room over the garage is often the room that never feels right.

If yours runs hot in summer and cold in winter, the main HVAC system may not be a good fit for the space. A ductless mini-split gives that room its own temperature control.

It can turn a storage room into something you actually use.

Salt air is rough on outdoor AC units 🌊

If you live close to the coast, a gentle fresh-water rinse can help remove salt buildup between maintenance visits.

Turn the system off first. Use a regular garden hose on a gentle setting. Skip the pressure washer because it can bend the fins.

If the coil is already badly corroded or damaged, leave it alone and call us.

Check the side of your ceiling fan before the weather cools down. A lot of fans have a little reverse switch on the housing, or the same setting on the remote.

In winter, run the fan clockwise on low. It helps circulate warm air that collects near the ceiling without creating much of a breeze. If it lets you turn the thermostat down a degree or two, it may even help trim your heating bill 💸

The Loris Bog-Off is Saturday, Oct. 17, in downtown Loris! 🍗

There is the chicken bog cook-off, food, vendors and live entertainment all day.

Loris people, we need an answer: what is the one thing nobody should mess with in a proper chicken bog recipe?

If you have ever looked at attic ductwork and wondered what the gray sealant is, that is mastic.

It seals the joints so conditioned air stays in the duct instead of leaking into the attic.

Old ductwork can also get crushed, disconnected or damaged over time. If rooms are hard to heat or cool, the ductwork is worth checking.
