Bruce and I had a great time at the 2023 Urban Wood Drying Workshop in Adrian, Michigan this week. Participants were from Canada, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Missouri.
Finding common ground and sharing information with this group was inspiring!
Frederik Laleicke of North Carolina State University presented information on solar, de-humidification, and vacuum kilns, best practices for kiln drying and storing lumber, plus we had time for discussions on urban wood philosophy and business culture. It was interesting and applicable to our urban wood businesses.
We toured Tervol's Wood Products in North Adams, MI and saw their huge inventory of slabs and dimensional lumber, milling operation (they have both a Woodmizer LT70 and a slabbing mill), three kilns and a log boiler that heats not only their facility but their home also!
