🇺🇸🎉 – Happy 251st Birthday, U.S. Army! 🎉🇺🇸
This Sunday, June 14th, most people recognize Flag Day as a celebration of our nation's flag. 🇺🇸

But did you know June 14th is also the birthday of the U.S. Army? In fact, the Army is one year older than the United States itself!

On June 14, 1775, the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army by authorizing the enlistment of expert riflemen from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. The following day, George Washington was appointed Commander-in-Chief, beginning a legacy of service that continues today.

For more than 250 years, the Army has played a vital role in defending our nation, preserving our freedoms, and supporting the growth of the United States. During the Revolutionary War, it often served as the primary symbol of unity for the colonies as they fought for independence.

This year's Army birthday theme, "This We'll Defend," honors that proud heritage while recognizing the Army's continued commitment to innovation, modernization, and readiness for the future.

Please join us in thanking the soldiers—past and present—who have served our country with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Happy 251st Birthday, U.S. Army, and Happy Flag Day! 🎂🎖️🚩

🚚 Planning Ahead for Next Week's Shipments 📦

👀 At first glance, this may look like a collection of parts waiting their turn. What you’re seeing is a carefully planned exercise in space economy and scheduling. 📋

After completing the electro-polishing process, the rods have been positioned on their sides in our passivation unit, allowing the clevises in the blue bins to be passivated at the same time.

By maximizing the available space, we can efficiently process multiple jobs while keeping upcoming shipment dates on track. 📦🚚

Manufacturing is more than producing quality parts.
⚙️It's also about coordinating processes, managing workflow, and planning ahead with customer deadlines in mind.
⚙️Every rack, every load, and every production step is thoughtfully arranged to make the most efficient use of equipment.

Attention to planning helps reduce handling, maximize capacity, and keep parts moving smoothly through production.

🥶❄️ – Wow! That's Frosty!! ❄️🥶

Whew! The heat was already here. Now the humidity has officially joined the party! 🌡️💦 As summer settles in, we're grateful for one blue light that means a lot around the shop.

💙 That blue glow signals that our air conditioning system is hard at work, helping keep our employees comfortable, our equipment running efficiently, and our facility cool and safe during these hot and humid Wisconsin summer days.

Precision machining depends on skilled people, quality equipment, and maintaining a controlled environment to produce consistent, reliable results. ⚙️✨

🌬️ FZE Fun Fact: Temperature and humidity can affect both people and machinery. Keeping the shop cool helps maintain comfort, productivity, and stable operating conditions throughout the day.

Are you enjoying summer weather yet, or are you already looking forward to cooler temperatures? Let us know! 👇

⚓️🔩 From Raw Material to Marine Performance 🔩⚓️

Every finished part has a story, and this stainless steel marine component is a great example.

These photos show the machining journey of the bar portion of a coupler used to connect multiple outboard motors, allowing them to turn together in synchronized steering applications. 🚤🌊

What starts as a simple piece of round bar stock is transformed through multiple machining operations into a critical marine component built for strength, precision, and reliability.

⚙️ FZE Fun Fact: Stainless steel is commonly used in marine applications because of its excellent corrosion resistance and durability in harsh water environments.

It's always rewarding to see the progression from raw material to finished product and the craftsmanship involved at every step.

When Everyday Tools Were Mechanical Masterpieces 🎨

Before touchscreens, microchips, and automation, engineers relied on gears, linkages, springs, and clever mechanical designs to solve everyday problems.

We recently came across a short video showcasing the charm of vintage machines, and it's hard not to appreciate the ingenuity behind them. Beauty and function working together in ways that are still fascinating to watch today. 👏

🛠️ Many of these inventions were built to last for decades and could often be repaired instead of replaced. These examples are still operating more than 100 years after they were made!

At FZE, we work with advanced CNC equipment and automation every day, but it's fascinating to see the mechanical creativity that helped pave the way for today's technology. The same principles of precision, efficiency, and problem-solving remain at the heart of manufacturing.

🎥 Enjoy this short video and take a step back in time to appreciate these mechanical marvels.

❓Which vintage machine would you most like to own or see in action?

🇺🇸 – D-Day: A Day That Changed History 🇺🇸

Tomorrow, June 6th, marks the anniversary of D-Day, one of the most significant military operations in history. 🌎

⚓ On June 6, 1944, more than 150,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, as part of Operation Overlord. Supported by over 5,000 ships 🚢 and 13,000 aircraft ✈️, the invasion required extraordinary planning, coordination, courage, and sacrifice. It became the beginning of the end of World War II in Europe.

The assault stretched across approximately 50 miles of coastline, including the now-famous Utah and Omaha Beaches. By the end of the day, Allied forces had secured a foothold in France, beginning the liberation of millions across Europe.

As Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower told the troops before the invasion:
"You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you."

🪂 More than 18,000 Allied paratroopers were deployed behind enemy lines before the beach landings began.
🤝 The operation involved troops from numerous Allied nations working toward a common goal.
🎭 Extensive deception plans convinced German forces that the invasion would occur elsewhere, helping make the landings successful.
💡The "D" in D-Day does not officially stand for any specific word. Military planners commonly used "D" to designate the day an operation would begin, just as "H-Hour" referred to the start time.

D-Day remains one of the largest amphibious military operations ever conducted.

We at FZE Manufacturing Solutions, 🎖️ remember and honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the Battle of Normandy and throughout World War II.

✨ Precision Ready to Ship! ✨

Don't these look perfect all lined up and ready for packing?

🍷🍺These precision-machined brass bolts are headed off to help with wine and beer tapping applications. Each one carefully machined to meet the specifications our customer depends on. 🛠️

Brass is valued for beverage dispensing components because it machines exceptionally well, resists corrosion, and provides long-lasting durability in demanding applications.

We’ve included a fun photo of the byproducts of precision machining—the beautiful curly-Q brass chips! 🌀 Brass often creates these long, spring-like chips during machining, making for an impressive sight before they head off for recycling.

Which photo catches your eye more—the neatly lined-up finished parts or the mountain of curly brass chips? Let us know in the comments! 👇

– Wow! That’s Fantastic! 🌟🛠️

A New Gathering Spot Has Arrived! 🌳🍽️

Our new picnic table has arrived, and we couldn't be more excited!

The old (white) table had certainly earned its retirement after years of faithful service. It was showing its age with plenty of wear & tear.

This beautiful wooden picnic table was delivered by our Quality Lead and was skillfully crafted by her son's freshman shop class at Kiel High School, Keil, WI. 👏 🪚🔨🍽️

There's something especially rewarding about seeing young people learn hands-on skills while creating something that will be used and appreciated. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pride in a job well done are evident throughout this project.

👏 Thank you to the students and instructors who helped make this project possible. We look forward to enjoying this table for many years to come.

At FZE, we value the trades and the next generation of makers, builders, and problem-solvers. This table is more than just a place to enjoy lunch—it's a reminder that skilled craftsmanship is alive and well. 🇺🇸

🔩 – The Steam Engine That Almost Changed History

Imagine if the Industrial Revolution had begun nearly 2,000 years earlier.

Around 50 CE, the Greek engineer Hero (Heron) of Alexandria crated a fascinating device called the Aeolipile—often considered the world's first steam-powered machine.

💡 Hero's Aeolipile used a metal sphere that spun from the force of escaping steam, making it one of the earliest known examples of a reaction turbine. Demonstrating principles that would later power steam engines, factories, locomotives, and ships.

The same fundamental principle is still used in many modern turbine systems today.

What's remarkable is how close ancient engineers may have come to developing practical steam power. Hero also worked with pumps, valves, and automated devices, while earlier inventors such as Ctesibius developed advanced water pumps and mechanical systems centuries before.

The technology existed.
The metalworking skills existed.
The engineering creativity certainly existed.
Yet it would take another 1,600 years before steam power transformed the world.

At FZE, we appreciate stories like this because they remind us that innovation often begins with a simple idea, a curious mind, and the ability to shape metal into something useful.

🎥 Enjoy this fascinating 4¼-minute video that explores a few of Heron's technological creations.

🤔 What do you think our world would look like today if practical steam engines had been developed during the Roman Empire? Would the Industrial Revolution have arrived centuries earlier? Share your thoughts below!

📻⚡ The Wireless Telegraph

It’s amazing to think that technologies we use every day:
📻 Radios, 📱 Smartphones, 📶 Wi-Fi, 🚓 Walkie-talkies, 🛰️ Satellite communications… all trace back to bold experiments and creative problem-solving from inventors willing to think beyond the limits of their time.

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 30th is ! Never heard of it? Neither had we.

It recognizes Mahlon Loomis as the inventor who received U.S. Patent #129,971 titled “An Improvement in Telegraphing” in 1872 — nearly 25 years before Guglielmo Marconi received his famous wireless telegraph patent.

Find out what is so great about this. Listen to this 4-minute story about Mahlon Loomis’ journey by Paul Harvey. It’s a good one!

FZE appreciates innovation, experimentation, and the persistence it takes to turn ideas into reality. Every advancement — whether in communication or manufacturing — starts with someone asking, “What if?”

Did you already know about Mahlon Loomis and his role in wireless communication history? What modern technology could you not live without today? 👇
