On March 8, 1975, coinciding with International Women's Year, the United Nations commemorated International Women's Day for the first time.
Women's Day is a date to remember the years of struggle for equality and justice for women; to honor the women who have made these advances possible and to invite reflection on persistent inequalities and the road ahead.
