Repair or Replace Your Refrigerator?

Many refrigerators that stop cooling don’t actually need to be replaced.

Repair is usually worth it if:
• The fridge isn’t cooling properly
• The freezer works but the fridge is warm
• The ice maker stopped working
• The issue is a fan motor, thermostat, or control board
• The unit is under 10–12 years old

Replacement may make sense if:
• The compressor has failed on an older unit
• The sealed system has major leaks
• Repair cost is close to buying new

Sometimes the problem is something smaller like a faulty fan or defrost component.

If your oven isn’t heating properly, this is usually why.

Most ovens have two heating elements:
• Broil (top)
• Bake (bottom)

The broil is easy to test-turn it on and it should glow red.
But the bake element (the one you use most) often fails… and sometimes you can’t even see it.

If it’s not glowing, it’s not working.

A worn idler pulley.

This small wheel keeps tension on the belt.
When it wears out, it starts squealing, slipping, and eventually the dryer won’t spin at all.

Most people assume the dryer is done for.

Repair or Replace Your Dryer?

Many dryers that “stop heating” don’t actually need to be replaced.

Repair is usually worth it if:
•The dryer runs but doesn’t heat
• Clothes take too long to dry
•The drum stops spinning
• The issue is a heating element, thermostat, belt, or roller
• The dryer is under 12–15 years old

Replacement may make sense if:
•The drum is damaged
•The motor has failed on an older unit
•Repair cost is close to buying new

Most dryer problems are fairly simple repairs.
