Erin's Waves

The forces of mother nature are truly extraordinary. On August 22, 2025, on a beautiful, clear, light wind day at Point Judith, I took these shots of 20 - 30 foot tall waves that headed to a large jetty breakwall and the beach revetment. At the time that I photographed these waves, hurricane Erin had been degraded to a post-tropical storm, had long passed this area and was centered 600 miles to the northeast out in the Atlantic.

The waves were probably generated the previous day, the energy traveling hundreds of miles. Jetty stones weighing tons on the were moved and tumbled, and the parking lot was strewn with cannonball sized stones tossed up over the revetment seawall from the beach about 20 feet below.

Can you imagine the erosion that would have taken place here if it were not for well-built shoreline protection?

Recently I was in Warwick, RI, documenting an OCC revetment seawall project. I looked across Narragansett Bay and could see the old Nayatt Point Lighthouse in Barrington. This is the location of one of my all-time favorite OCC projects. It was a significant undertaking, pulling away a stone revetment, restoring a massive 180 year old cut block seawall, and resetting the revetment properly. Definitely an all-in-one project, in a perfect, scenic, location.

I have posted it here before but, it will always be worth another look. Enjoy!

CONGRATULATIONS OCC on the BIG TEN!

Around 9 years ago I met and started producing work for Ocean County Construction, OCC. It was, and still is, 3 partners and their employees. They represent the essence of quality team work, premium, experienced skillset and profoundly good work ethics. A small company producing huge results across New England coastal regions, CT to MA, and into New York, including the Hudson River as far north as the West Point region..

Now celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary, a better seawall builder you will not find.

I could not be more proud of the friendships mades and the privilege it has been to me, to be able to work with them. No matter how difficult the site and weather conditions and challenges, it is always interesting, always an education, always enjoyable. They are truly unique and really have the Right Stuff.

With Deep Appreciation and Admiration,
Bruce Edwards
