🚀Exciting news! Labsphere Inc is gearing up for the SPIE Optics and Photonics Conference 🗓 August 18-22 in San Diego, CA.

📄📄Two papers will be presented by our Chief Technologist, Dr. Dan Scharpf on Tuesday, August 20 highlighting uniform source technology for absolute calibration of imaging sensors. ⏰ At 10:30, we will discuss a vacuum-compatible, spectrally tunable, flat panel source for large aperture earth-observation systems, 🌎 where we examine the considerations and benefits of performing calibration in vacuum. ⏰ At 10:50, we’ll dive into a new “Blue Sun” solar spectrum source for calibrating hyperspectral imagers. A quantitative method for assessing the accuracy of the calibration based on the spectral shapes of the calibration source and the measured spectra will be discussed.

📍We’ll be at Booth 418 displaying our measurement systems for imager calibration, laser power, and reflectance/transmittance measurements.

Can’t make it to the presentation? Reach out and we’ll get you a copy of the papers. ➡️ https://www.labsphere.com/contact/

🚀Countdown to the Small Satellite Conference! At Labsphere Inc., we specialize in the optical calibration of 🌎 earth-observing imagers, ensuring precise and reliable data.

📄A recent NASA paper presented at CALCON illustrated how Spectralon® solar diffusers can lower the uncertainty of radiometric imagery on Landsat-8 and -9 and can be applied to smallsats. As more applications require absolute radiometry beyond what a pretty picture can provide, calibration will be essential.🎯 Discover our pre-flight calibration for hyperspectral imagers, on-board calibration using space-grade Spectralon, and vicarious calibration with the FLARE network.

📍Visit Booth 162 in Logan, Utah, from August 4-8 to learn how our solutions can enhance your mission!

🌞 There’s been a lot of buzz about sunscreen testing methods lately and for good reason.

🏖 In June 2024 ISO TC WG 7 approved two new SPF testing methods to move to the final draft.

😎 Most exciting is ISO 23675, the first completely in vitro SPF testing method! If you own Labsphere’s UV-2000S, you don’t need a new spectrophotometer to comply with ISO 23675. Labsphere’s UV-2000S is compliant with the spectrophotometer requirements in ISO 23675.

If you don’t own a UV-2000S and are interested in safe and fast in-vitro SPF, UVA protection factor, critical wavelength, or broad-spectrum testing, contact Labsphere Inc to learn more about our industry leading UV Transmittance spectrophotometers and find more info here: https://www.labsphere.com/product/uv-2000-ultraviolet-transmittance-analyzer/

As we approach the opening of the 4S Symposium on Small Satellite Systems and Service in Mallorca Spain next week, we’re discussing the next phase of the CALIBRATION LIFE CYCLE: On-Orbit Calibration.

Once in orbit, satellites fine-tune their accuracy through on-board calibration techniques. While cross-calibration and validation of ground sites with other satellites is often used, mismatch due to non-simultaneous flyover, different viewing angles, and changing atmospheric conditions can lead to errors that require corrections and assumptions. Active radiation sources and Spectralon® solar diffusers are instrumental in an on-board calibration process, allowing dynamic adjustments to sensor performance and absolute radiometric calibration. These advanced tools ensure your satellite maintains optimal functionality, and traceability delivering reliable data for Earth observation and research.
