Dr. Hyung-shik Kim joined our team in the fall of 2022 as Executive Vice President of Research and Development. Born in South Korea, Dr. Kim has been received numerous awards including the IR52 Jang Young-shil Award from the Korea Industrial Technology Association, the Hyundai Technology Award (1st Prize), and the Prize of Excellent Korean Technology from the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology. He holds a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics and Bio-Mechanics) from Drexel University, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Hanyang University.
To date, Dr. Kim has been granted forty-seven patents in the fields of welding, automation, and robotics. He is a sought-afterlecturer and has served as an Adjunct Professor at Gunsan National University, Pusan National University, and Ulsan University. He has also served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Minnesota, and Senior Research Engineer at the Institute of Industrial Technology in Ulsan, Korea where he headed both the Mechatronics Department and the Laser Application Department.
With 38 years of experience in the field of renewable energy, Dr. Kim’s professional accomplishments are many. As a Senior Vice President at Hyundai Heavy Industries, he was responsible for the fabrication, installation and management of a wind turbine factory in Gunsan, Korea; the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of wind power systems in the U.S.A and Finland; the ex*****on of research, development, and installation of an offshore wind turbine in Jeju Island; and, in collaboration with the French company Saint Gobain, and the German company Avancis, the construction of a Thin-Film Photovoltaic factory.
