The machine is used in an abrasive environment without coolant.

The previous machine didn't have covers over the ball screws. There was approximately 0.010" of wear per month!

Remarkably none of the other electronics were fried!

Got a whole bunch of test leads on the board trying to trouble shoot it.

With this particular IC installed, you can see the LED's aren't as brite due to low output voltage and it's also skipping the 6th LED.

I've been troubleshooting a machine for some time now. I get it working for a month or so, then it quits again.

The relay board uses (4) CD4017B decade counter IC's.

I finally determined that the counters were not sequencing properly.

According to the data sheet they have an opperating voltage of 3 to 18 volts. The machine runs at 12 which is well within spec.

It turns out that the replacements for some reason only work properly at 5 volts.
