CalWave is proud to announce that our open-ocean pilot has successfully concluded after 10 months of continuous operation off the coast of San Diego, CA!

The project, which deployed in September 2021, was supported by a U.S. Department of Energy award with the goal to demonstrate CalWave’s scalable xWave™ technology as a reliable, cost-effective solution for sustainable energy generation. With zero intervention and 99% system uptime, our fully autonomous, submerged xWave architecture has met (and exceeded) expectations for overcoming the key challenges of performance, reliability, survivability, and cost that have long-held the industry back.

Our press release with technical findings and full-length recovery video can be found via the link in our bio!

Thank you to our project partners at US DOE, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, DNV, MarineLabs, and University of California, Berkeley, among many others who have advised and helped us along the way.
