Take some time to enjoy the Back Road shops and restaurants. Whether you are on foot, bicycle, golf cart or car, you'll find plenty to explore! Start out by turning onto Back Road off of Highway 12. You can't miss the turn--the Pirate's Chest adorned with its boat full of conch shells is your landmark! Take a few minutes to pop in and find a treasure. On your right you'll find the Back Porch Lunch
box, a perfect spot for grabbing a wrap or cold drink. Don't go too far, you're just beginning! Directly on your left you'll find the The Ocracoke Yoga Studio. Be sure to check their outdoor board for classes that are available! Continue on, just a few steps more and you'll find one of the island's most loved shops, Bella Fiore—you're sure to find a treat here, be it artwork, pottery or jewelry. Just beyond you'll spot The Back Porch Restaurant -- a local landmark. Their menu is delectable, whether you are looking for small plates to share or something larger to eat all yourself! Directly in front of The Back Porch you'll find Blackbeard’s Lodge. A great central location and its pet friendly! Nestled at the corner you'll find the Sunflower Center, another great shop not to miss! Just beyond you'll find the Flying Melon Restaurant. “The Melon" is housed in a beautifully built location and is a destination well known to locals and visitors alike. Needing a bit of caffeine to continue on your journey? Pop over to Ocracoke Coffee Co and Island Smoothie. They also house the island’s tiniest beer and wine bar—the MiniBar. They've been serving folks for over 25 years, once inside you'll appreciate why! Down the street, across from the Ocracoke Health Clinic, you'll find Annabelle's Florist and Antiques. A great spot to find a hidden treasure. Just beside Annabelle's is Mary Bassell's art studio. Jot down her phone number to sign up for her art classes--she offers them all summer long. As you head around the corner, you’ll see the colorful Ocracoke Cigar Shop—it’s directly behind the salmon colored house up on the second floor. Pop in and get that special someone a stogie! Further on down the road you'll find Zillie's Island Pantry--the island's gourmet provisions shop—offering a large selection of beer and wine and snacks. You can enjoy wine or beer on the front porch while watching the rest of the island bustle by. After your refreshment, continue down Back Road and take a left. Here you'll find the last of our beloved shops--Island Artworks and Over the Moon. Be sure to leave enough time to visit these 2 unique shops; each shop houses many little nooks and crannies to explore.
