Back when experience was the technology.

Long before modern HDD rigs, GPS guidance, and touchscreens, crews were out here figuring it out in real time with grit, instinct, and a whole lot of determination. These photos are from the early days of underground construction—when every bore taught you something and experience was earned the hard way.

We recently unearthed some incredible vintage footage from the West Texas Boring archives, and trust us… you’re going to want to see what’s coming next.

Back when every bore was an adventure.

No advanced locating systems. No easy answers. Just rock, water, steel, and a crew willing to go wherever the job took them. These photos from the West Texas Boring archives capture a different era of underground construction—when every project came with unknowns and experience was often the only roadmap.

Looking back at these early jobs is a reminder of how far the industry has come, while also showing the grit and determination that built it in the first place. We’ve uncovered some incredible vintage footage from these years, and there’s a lot more coming soon.

Call it a South Texas Run - job after job, pipe going in the ground. This bore: over 600’ of 12”. Just one stretch of a bigger push we’ve been grinding through.

Long miles, late nights, and more nights away from home than we’d like- families, front porches, and a dog that’s probably wondering where we went. But that’s the trade. You put your head down, do the work, and keep it moving til the job’s done.

The early days of HDD looked a whole lot different.

Back when horizontal directional drilling was still carving out its place in the industry, rigs like these were helping crews take on work that was changing the future of underground construction. No one had decades of experience to lean on yet—every job was part of the learning curve, and every breakthrough pushed the industry forward.

These old photos from the West Texas Boring archives are a glimpse into a time when HDD was still evolving and the people running these machines were helping shape what the industry would become. More vintage footage and stories from the early days are coming soon.

Before the name meant something… they built it.

Long before West Texas Boring became the company it is today, Bill and Louise Harrington were out building it one job, one risk, and one breakthrough at a time. Back when HDD was still in its early days, they were already helping shape the future of underground construction in the Permian Basin and beyond.

We’ve recently uncovered some incredible old photos and vintage footage from the archives, and getting to look back at where it all started has been something special. Stay tuned—there’s a lot more history coming.
