FRC Team 1504: The Desperate Penguins

Hello everyone! After a four (wow!) year Facebook hiatus, Team 1504 is back with some brief updates about how the team has been doing!

This year, we brought our competition robot “Kowalski” to Battle Creek and Saline, making it into the playoffs both times with the 2nd and 8th seeded alliances, respectively. The team had a great time competing and we are hoping to be back and better than ever next year!

Locally, the team has also brought a remodeled version of “Chuck” out to Hiawatha and Kinawa, putting on demonstrations and letting the kids drive him around. We’re glad to see that kids are still interested in robotics, and we hope to establish elementary/middle school level programs for them to participate in soon!

There will be more updates to come in the future, so stay on the lookout for us!

The Desperate Penguins are competing at MARC! The Michigan Advanced Robotics Competition will be held June 23-24 at Monroe High School, 901 Herr Road, Monroe, MI 48161. The Desperate Penguins competed on March 23-25 in the Lansing FIM District Event, held at Mason High School in Mason, MI.

After posting a 3-8-1 record in the qualification round, Team 1504 was selected (along with Team 1076) for Alliance #8 by captain Team 3322. This lineup knocked off the #1 Alliance 2-0, before falling to Alliance #4 in the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal matches were heartbreakingly close (447-445 and 452-445).

The Desperate Penguins competed at the Gull Lake FIM event March 16-18, finishing 14th of 40 in the qualification round and receiving the Gracious Professionalism Award sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.

In the playoff round, Team 1504 was selected as a member of the #5 Alliance with Teams 4381 (captain) and 4453. Alliance #5 was defeated 2-0 by Alliance #4 (which went on to advance to the finals against Alliance #7).

Mark your calendars! The Desperate Penguins will be competing this year at FIM Gull Lake (in Richland, MI, March 16-18, 2017) and FIM Lansing (in Mason, MI, March 23-25, 2017). Team 1504 welcomes all friends and supporters to these free events.
