Designing historic homes isn’t just my job — it’s how I make sense of the world.
These houses have lived full lives before us. They’ve held generations, grief, joy, ordinary Tuesdays and once-in-a-lifetime moments. When I walk into an old home, I don’t see something outdated or inefficient — I see a story that deserves to keep being told.
I feel a deep responsibility to listen before I draw, to understand what the house wants to be, not just what’s trendy or fast. My work is about honoring craftsmanship, repairing what time has worn down, and carefully adding what today’s families need without erasing what made the home special in the first place.
There’s something grounding about knowing you’re one small steward in a very long timeline. That the decisions you make today will be lived with, loved, and hopefully respected long after you’re gone.
Designing historic homes reminds me that beauty isn’t rushed, character can’t be replicated, and the best work is done when you slow down enough to care.
This is legacy work for me. And I’m grateful every day I get to do it.
