Fact of the day: The "Old Faucett Well," drilled in 1888 in Atoka County within the Choctaw Nation (Indian Territory), is considered Oklahoma's first oil well. While not a commercial success, it marked the beginning of oil exploration in the area. The Nellie Johnstone No. 1, drilled in 1897 near Bartlesville, is recognized as the first commercially productive oil well in Oklahoma.
