Some things belong in a haunted house.

Skeletons.

Cobwebs.

Things moving behind the walls.

That last one?

Not nearly as fun when you're about to drill into the wall. 👻

Have a safe and Happy Halloween weekend!

Just because one area of concrete is clear doesn't mean the next one will be.

Rebar can change direction. Conduit may cross through the slab. Post-tension cables and other embedded features can be present in areas that look exactly the same from the surface.

That's why the location of a planned opening matters.

Before drilling, coring, or saw cutting, GPR helps crews evaluate the specific area where work will take place.

Moving a planned opening a few inches may be all it takes to avoid a conflict. Other times, the scan reveals something that needs a closer look.

Either way, it's better to find out before the concrete is opened.

Plumbing work in an existing building can come with a few surprises.

Whether it's a renovation, a repair, or changes to an existing plumbing system, getting to the pipes often means working through concrete that's been there for years.

And there's no telling what's inside just by looking at the floor.

Rebar, electrical conduit, post-tension cables, and other embedded features can all affect where drilling, coring, or saw cutting can safely take place.

That's where concrete scanning comes in.

Before the floor is opened, Echo GPR helps plumbing contractors get a better picture of what's inside the slab so they can plan their work around potential conflicts.

Because the plumbing work is complicated enough without adding another problem.

“We only need one hole.”

Possibly the most innocent sentence ever spoken on a construction site.

Because that one hole still has to miss everything that isn't supposed to become part of the hole.

Rebar.
Conduit.
Post-tension tendons.
Other embedded features.

One opening or fifty, you still want to know what you're working with before drilling begins.
Have a safe weekend!

A soil boring may only be a few inches wide.

That doesn't make choosing the location a small decision.

Environmental teams often need samples from very specific areas of a property. Before the drill advances into the ground, the proposed boring location can be evaluated for utilities and other subsurface features that may create a conflict.

GPR doesn't replace the boring or tell the environmental professional what is in the soil sample.
It provides another layer of information before intrusive work begins.

Small hole.

Worth checking what's below it.

The plumber knows where the new sanitary line needs to go.

The concrete saw operator knows where the trench is marked.

But what crosses that path inside the slab?

That's the part you don't want to discover with a saw blade.

Before trenching an existing concrete floor, GPR can help map rebar, electrical conduit, post-tension cables, and other embedded features along the proposed route.

Sometimes the original path works.

Sometimes moving it a little makes everyone's job easier.

Scan first. Then make the cut.

Renovations have a way of revealing things nobody expected.

Especially when the floor has to come up.

What looks like a straightforward cut through concrete can get complicated when you factor in rebar, conduit, plumbing lines, and whatever else may have been added over the years.

That's why we scan.

Before drilling or saw cutting continues, GPR helps crews evaluate what's in the concrete and identify potential conflicts around the planned work area.

Because the goal isn't just to get the floor open.

It's to get the work done without creating another problem.

A utility doesn't have to cross an entire property to create a problem.

Some of the easiest lines to overlook are the ones serving something nearby—a light pole, detached building, gate, sign, irrigation system, or piece of equipment.

Those privately owned lines may never appear on a public utility locate.

That's why the area immediately around a planned excavation deserves attention too.
Before digging, look at what the property is telling you.

Sometimes the clue is sitting only a few feet away.
