Restoration Done Right: A Nightmare Turned Into a Dream

Our latest project at Two Celts & a Jamaican Restoration and Remodeling is all about turning substandard work into a safe and beautiful home. This "dollar home" had significant issues caused by poor craftsmanship from the original contractor.

Here’s what we’ve done to bring it back to life:

Replaced the band board made of Miratech cardboard with durable PVC, adding proper flashing for long-term water resistance.
Rebuilt the porch column and box header with high-quality materials.
Fixed faulty flashing over the box header that was causing leaks.
Removed railings, sealed lag bolts, and ensured everything was properly secured to the rim joist this time.
Replaced the entire band board around the home’s exterior while inspecting and addressing any hidden rot or water damage.
This project also included a full rebuild of the portico and adjoining walls, along with stripping and repairing mold-damaged interior walls.

Unfortunately, this home was built new just six years ago, yet the homeowners have faced ongoing issues due to poor construction. This serves as a powerful reminder: hiring a project manager, superintendent, or engineer to oversee your new build can save you from costly repairs and heartache later on.
