If someone doesn’t love a good donut…we honestly don’t know how to help you—especially in this line of work. That might be a red flag.

For reference, Anthony L Hulett (bottom left) clearly spends some time in the gym…and still put down at least two like it was part of the workout plan.

Also—we know not every crew got donuts today. Relax, we didn’t forget you. Yours are coming. We just happened to avoid Bill Sharlyne O'Dell today…because somehow every time donuts show up, they end up in the passenger seat of his truck and never make it much farther.

All jokes aside, these crews earned them. It wasn’t an easy week, but they kept showing up, pushing through, and found a way to finish strong.

Now if we can keep the rain out of here…we might actually start getting dangerous next week.

Great leaders train their replacements and it starts here. 👷‍♂️

Excited that construction season is officially here and even more fired up that our first internship class is underway. 🏗️

Meet two of our interns who are currently being shown the ropes by one of our rising leaders, Dylan Kuel (center): 🚧

Jacob (right) is a student at UNO and has had a construction itch since he was a kid working alongside his grandfather. I’ve already seen photos of him manhandling the jumping jack compacting storm sewer trenches… safe to say, he’s going to fit in just fine. 💪

Lincoln (left) is a student at MCC and has been working with his hands his entire life, learning from his dad along the way. One cool connection our President, Grant Perry, found—they are both tied to Mick Doyle’s boxing gym. Lincoln trains there weekly, and growing up Grant and his dad, Troy Perry, and used to spar there together. Lincoln has officially re‑energized the long‑running family debate over who won those sessions 20 years ago. Grant says he definitely won....Troy begs to differ. 🥊

We’ve got a few more interns joining soon, but we’re excited to watch these young guys grow, learn the trade, and help push Vrana Civil to the next level.

It’s Administrative Professionals Week, and we want to recognize the great team that keeps our office running smoothly at Vrana Civil.

Whether you stop by the office or talk with us on the phone, chances are you’re working with one of these amazing people who keep everything moving behind the scenes.

And as a bonus—one of our new 2026 amenities is the bottomless cookie jar for visitors… which tells us it’s probably about time for another refill.

Thank you for everything you do to make Vrana Civil such a great place to work.

Making solid progress on the Compost Relocation project for Pink Grading Inc. Vrana Civil is proud to be constructing the stormwater basin (over 1,000 CY of concrete) and installing the sanitary and storm sewer systems.

With the project located adjacent to a creek, it requires precise coordination and careful planning every step of the way. Our crews have done an excellent job adapting to site conditions, staying efficient, and—most importantly—keeping safety at the forefront.

To our pour crew members out there...I know its slow right now, but we have a lot of paving right around the corner. WE PROMISE!

Today Grants Boss- his son Wilson - treated the crew on one of our Sarpy County projects to donuts. He was very clear about one thing: chocolate only.
Apparently leadership starts with firm donut policies.

We assumed he was excited to see the excavator running. Instead, However, got a full presentation from Wilson about Stacy Hughes “BIG TRUCKS” and why Vrana is somehow under‑equipped as both a father and an employee.

Crew was happy.Donuts vanished instantly. We’ve been informed our truck situation is “something to think about.”

Oh and Bill Sharlyne O'Dell put the remaining donuts in his truck….some things never change.

🚧 Vrana Civil Promotion Announcement 🚧
Vrana Civil is proud to announce the promotion of Anthony Hulett to Superintendent of Paving Operations!

Anthony has been a dedicated member of the Vrana team for over 25 years, contributing across multiple sawing and concrete roles and becoming a respected leader throughout the company. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to helping others grow have made a lasting impact across our organization.

This promotion also carries special meaning for our Vice President, Grant Perry, who worked under Anthony during his early years in the field. Grant often shares how those days — from long hours performing removal sawing on 120th & L, to evenings in the gym learning discipline and hard work — helped shape his own leadership style and personal values.

Anthony’s mentorship and influence have reached countless individuals at Vrana Civil, and we are excited to see him step into this expanded role as we continue to grow as a premier paving contractor in the region.

Please join us in congratulating Anthony on this well‑deserved promotion! 👏

We can’t believe it’s already February. At this point, we’re convinced winter just rage‑quit. Meanwhile, spring is outside doing laps around the parking lot yelling, “TAG, YOU’RE IT!”

Since the weather has decided to live its own life, we’re gearing up for a very busy season and need more awesome humans to join our teams. We’re especially looking to grow our underground and prep crews, and yes—we even have leadership positions open for anyone brave enough to tell other adults things like, “Please don’t put that there.”

Want to join any of the guys pictured above? Great news: we provide fresh‑baked cookies. Bad news: Bill O’Dell is banned from the cookie jar. (Bill knows why. We all know why. The donut incident on 168th and Dodge lives on.)

If you can show up, work hard, and avoid vanishing like winter did, apply on our new website!

(No outside recruiters, please—we already get enough calls from car warranty people.)

Even though the calendar says “winter” in Nebraska, our crews clearly didn’t get the memo. ❄️➡️💪

This week, our underground and structure crews knocked out a major milestone on our Granite Creek project with E&A Associates—placing a large precast box culvert from American Concrete Products.

Full disclosure: this is an active creek. And despite the temps, it just froze recently. That meant our team had to put their heads together and come up with a plan to keep the water moving while still getting the work done safely and efficiently.

They absolutely delivered. Huge shoutout to everyone involved for the teamwork, planning, and ex*****on on this one. Great work all around! FYI...Tom Cannon is smiling very hard in the picture above while he gets to sit in the crane and stay warm!

With the brutal cold across most of the U.S., nothing sounds better right now than a big bowl of chili. So here’s a throwback to our annual Chili Cook‑Off—where things got shockingly competitive for a group of grown adults with crockpots.

Somehow, we ended up with a four-way tie this year. Yes… four. And yes… I’m still questioning the math, the judges, and possibly the integrity of the ballot box. 🤨🔥

Big congrats to our “co-co-co-co champions”: Mike Hiatt, Dale Stanek, Ed Nemecek, and Jack Peterson.

And for the record, Dale (pictured below) took his tasting duties extremely seriously. The man looked like he was judging the World Cup of Chili—absolute commitment. 🥄

Thanks to everyone who participated. Same time next year… and maybe this time we’ll invest in a certified third‑party vote counter.

Celebrating a Legend: Darrell Lasher

Anyone who has ever worked with our concrete division knows the name Darrell Lasher. In fact, if you’ve placed more than 10 yards of concrete in your life in Omaha, there’s a good chance Darrell inspected it, poured it, or told you how you were doing it wrong—in the nicest way possible.

Darrell has been with Vrana Civil for over 37 years. After pouring what feels like half the earth’s supply of concrete, he’s finally decided to hang up the boots and embark on his next adventure: retirement. Frankly, after hundreds of thousands of cubic yards, I’m not sure if Darrell is retiring from concrete or concrete is retiring from Darrell.

Darrell knew three different generations of Vrana. His work ethic, humor, and ability to fix just about anything with a concrete and a Dr Pepper are legendary.

Darrell, you have always—and will always—be part of our family. I hope your retirement is filled with unlimited Dr Pepper, canned sardines, and, of course, a few Busch Lights. You’ve earned every single one.

Here’s to 37 years of hard work, great stories, and concrete so smooth you could eat dinner off it. 👏
