A severely damaged suction line on this air conditioner condenser led to rapid and complete loss of refrigerant.
The repair required cutting out the damaged section of copper, then brazing in a new section to fit while flowing nitrogen to prevent oxidation scaling inside the piping. We then pressurized the system to 200 psi to ensure there were no leaks. After that, we pulled the system down to 500 microns of vacuum and recharged fully with R-22 refrigerant (often referred to by the generic term "Freon"). Finally, the repaired suction line was re-insulated to prevent the absorption of excess heat and prevent sweating.
A lot of fancy jargon to say we had this customer's unit up and running like new in no time. π
