Please take the time to read this today.
Below is a print called "Black Fire" by Mason. I have been working with his amazing mother, Nancy to bring this work of art to life. If you do anything today, please please please read her story below. Working with her and Mason is something that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Thank you Nancy and thank you Mason.
Please read:
Black Fire was created when Mason was in 5th grade. When his love of reading bloomed in 3rd grade, Mason seemed to gravitate toward books about dragons. The first series we read together, when he was really discovering the excitement of reading, was a fantasy series that had dragons in it. During 5th grade, he started a book series in which the main characters were dragon figures that came to life. It was shortly after starting those books that Black Fire was created.
Mason was an extremely active dude, so he didn't spend a whole lot of time sitting down, writing, or drawing! Because of that, our family finds great pleasure in this dragon because he gives us a chance to see Mason's creativity at work.
Black Fire boldly personifies Mason's imagination and spirit. This dragon seems to have a life of its own because of the time and thought Mas put into him. Black Fire embodies Mason's passion, power, and pride, and his eyes reflect his intelligent, compassionate, beautiful soul.
Mason died in April 2014 from cancer. He was brave until the end, reassuring us that everything would be ok. We are absolutely confident of Mason's approval of Marty's translation of Black Fire. We will be forever grateful for his hard work and creativity, and for bringing Black Fire so vividly to life!!
